The Boston Celtics took a flier on Tacko Fall by signing the 7-foot-6 center from UCF to an Exhibit 10 contract after Fall went undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft.

The NBA Draft is only two rounds these days. Fall did not hear his name called among the 60 potential picks.

As expected, 18-year old phenom Zion Williamson from Duke went first overall. The New Orleans Pelicans hit the draft lottery and went with Williamson.

In March Madness, UCF nearly upset Duke but the Blue Devils held on for a one-point victory. Tacko Fall did not back down against Zion and more than held his own with 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks.

For many viewers unfamiliar with Fall, they witnessed first-hand that he was no fluke. If Fall did not foul out, UCF could have pulled off a heck of an upset.

Not Drafted, But NBA Bound

Tacko Fall, 23, attempted to become the tallest man drafted in the NBA since Yao Ming in 2002. He bubbled the draft this year, along with Manute Bol’s son, Bol Bol.

Fall posted an impressive 74.8 FG percentage during his senior season. He averaged 11.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.

At the end of the regular season, Fall reunited with his mother from Senegal. The two had not seen each other in seven years after he left home to hone his basketball skills in America.

Fall’s mother only let him go if he went to college to earn a degree. Fall graduated from UCF with a business degree.

The Celtics took a flier on Fall. Danny Ainge liked his work ethic. He’s the only big man that the Celtics added to the team.

Beantown Haul

The Celtics were unable to move up in the draft and acquire a trade with the Pelicans for their #4 pick. Instead, the Celtics stood pat with their picks. Ainge drafted four players last week and all of them guards or swingmen. They were in a dire need of a point guard to replace Kyrie Irving, who is probably headed to either the Nets or NY Knicks.

CELTICS 2019 DRAFT PICKS
Romeo Langford (Indiana)
Grant Williams (Tennessee)
Carsen Edwards (Purdue)
Tremont Waters (LSU)

With a pair of first round picks, the Celtics drafted Romeo Langford (Indiana) with the #14 pick and Grant Williams (Tennessee) with the #22 pick.

In the second round, the Celtics added a pair of smaller-sized point guards. Carsen Edwards (Purdue) shot the lights out in March Madness. Danny Ainge must see a little bit of himself in Tremont Waters (LSU), who was one of the many sleeper picks worthy of a flier.
