2020 Super Bowl Odds
Kansas City Chiefs 4/5
San Francisco 49ers 1/1
At the start of the regular season, the Chiefs emerged as the top favorite to win the Super Bowl at 5/1 odds. None one expected the 49ers to do any damage this season, which is why they were 36/1 odds to win the Super Bowl at the end of the preseason.
Heading into the conference championships, the Chiefs were the 5/4 favorites to win the Super Bowl among the final four teams. The 49ers were 3/2 odds to win the Super Bowl after they secured a spot in the NFC Championship.
Mahomes’ First Super Bowl
Every Chiefs fan I know would tell you that they expected the Chiefs to appear in last year’s Super Bowl, but the New England Patriots knocked them off in overtime. Anything less than a Super Bowl berth this season would have been a disappointment in Kansas City. With high expectations on the Chiefs all season, they delivered their first appearance in the Super Bowl in 50 years. Super Bowl IV marked the last time the Chiefs advanced to the championship game. They defeated the Minnesota Vikings, but haven’t been in the big game since.
The Chiefs spotted the Titans a 10-0 lead before Mahomes and the offense woke up. With the Titans up 17-7, Mahomes worked his magic. They went into halftime with a 21-17 lead after a pair of touchdowns from Tyreek Hill, and an elusive 27-yard touchdown run by Mahomes.
The Chiefs scored 28 unanswered points to take a 35-17 lead late into the fourth quarter. Their defense shutdown Derick Henry in the second half
San Francisco Seeking #6
The Niners jumped out to a 27-0 lead at halftime, thanks to Raheem Mostert’s 160 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries. San Francisco’s defense sacked Rodgers twice, and picked him off once during a stifling first half.
Despite a stronger second half from the Packers, the Niners held on for the 37-20 victory. Mostert finished the game with 220 yards on 29 carries. He also made NFL history, becoming the first running back to rush for 200+ yards and four touchdowns in a playoff game.
The San Francisco 49ers won the Super Bowl five times between 1981 and 1994. The Niners return to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2012, when they lost the “Harbaugh Bowl” against the Baltimore Ravens.
The Chiefs and 49ers will meet for the first time in the Super Bowl. The Niners opened up as a consensus 1-point under dog.
