Tough Schedule for Indy Colts Tilts AFC South Crown Toward Tennessee Titans

It’s another two-way race for the AFC South. The Tennessee Titans (6-1) are 1/2 odds or -200 to win the division, according to a recent update by the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas. The Indianapolis Colts (5-2) are 8/5 odds, or +160 to take the divisional crown for the first time in six seasons.

The Houston Texans won the AFC South four times in the last five seasons, including back-to-back division crowns in 2018 and 2019. After a horrid 1-6 start, the Texans and the Jacksonville Jaguars are no longer in the picture.

The Colts won the AFC South in back-to-back years in 2013 and 2014. The Titans last won the AFC South in 2008.

AFC SOUTH ODDS (As of 10/28/30)

The Titans got hot in the playoffs last season thanks to some insane running by Derrick Henry. Mike Vrabel’s Titans went all the way to the AFC Championship Game before their run got stopped cold by the Kansas City Chiefs. At least the Titans were eliminated from the postseason by the team that eventually won Super Bowl LIV.

The Titans are now 18/1 odds to win Super Bowl LV, according to the Westgate SuperBook. At the start of the season, the Titans were 28/1 odds.

The Colts started the season at 22/1 odds to win the Super Bowl, but their current championship futures are 30/1.

Tough November for Indy

Philip Rivers has only thrown seven touchdowns through six games, which seems off if you’ve watched a lot of Chargers’ games over the years. The Colts rely heavily on their defense. In terms of DVOA, the Colts are ranked #5 overall.

The stingy Colts boast the fourth-best scoring defense, allowing only 19.2 points per game. They have a strong run defense (ranked #3) and an even better pass defense (ranked #2). In total yardage, only the Pittsburgh Steelers allow fewer yards than the Colts (288 ypg).

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS SCHEDULE

The Colts have yet to lose a game at home this season. However, they have three difficult home games in November, and four overall, that will make or break them.

In Week 9, the Colts host Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. They have a quick turnaround in Week 10 to face the Titans in Nashville for Thursday Night Football. In Week 11, the Colts square off against Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. In Week 12, the Colts and Titans meet in Indianapolis for their second game inside of 17 days.

The Colts also have two difficult road games at the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 14, and at the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 16.

Two of the last three games of the season are against the Texans and Jaguars, which could help the Colts if they’re on the playoff bubble.

Tennessee Takes the D-Henry Show on the Road

The Titans finally contained a COVID-19 outbreak within the team that could have been a lot worse. Heading into Week 8, they’re still looking good and are tied for the third-best record in the conference at 5-1. The Titans have the edge to win the AFC South at 1/2 odds due to their high-octane offense and a slightly easier schedule than the Colts.

The Titans operate the fourth-highest scoring offense in the NFL, averaging 31.3 ppg. Henry leads the fifth-best rushing attack in the NFL, averaging 145.2 yards per game. He’ll go up against the third-toughest run defense in the league. The Colts only allow opposing teams to average 88.3 yards per game against them.

TENNESSEE TITANS SCHEDULE

The Titans only have four more homes games, with six more on the road.

In Weeks 10 through 12, the Titans meet the Colts with an away game against the Baltimore Ravens sandwiched in between.

The Titans face one of their biggest challenges of the season a couple of days after Christmas. In Week 16, they visit the Packers in Green Bay with a chance to play on the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field.

On the flip side, three out of Tennessee’s final four games are against the Jaguars, Lions, and Texans.
