Quick Tips:
ATP Finals Preview
This year, the ATP Finals not only provides the opportunity to earn one of tennis’ biggest paychecks but will also decide who finishes the year as world number one – Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic.
Nadal holds the advantage over his long-time adversary, however a poor showing from the Spaniard, combined with a tournament winning run from the Serb, could see Djokovic finish top of the standings yet again.
Djokovic is certainly the man in form, scooping the prize at the Paris Masters by beating Denis Shapovalov in the final. Nadal, on the other hand, had to withdraw due to an abdominal injury in the semi-finals – will he be fully fit when the ATP Finals come around?
Looking further than Nadal and Djokovic (as well as Federer, who can never be counted out), the field this year looks to be a tremendously exciting one. It could even be seen as a challenge being thrown by the younger generation, as they look to dethrone the kings of the court for the past 15 years. Can Medvedev, or perhaps Tsitsipas, do what Alexander Zverev did last year and surprise everyone by taking the title, or can Zverev make a successful defense of his title?

Novak Djokovic
Djokovic goes into the tournament as the overwhelming favorite, with odds of just 5/4. His pedigree in the tournament – having won it five times in the past – is tremendous, and he’s also the man on form, following his victory in the Paris Masters.
Rafael Nadal
Nadal is the current world number one, winning four tournaments throughout 2019. Amazingly, however, he has never won the ATP Finals though, which could account for his odds of 11/2. Don’t be surprised if the Spaniard squares off against Djokovic in the tournament’s final.
Daniil Medvedev
At age 23, Daniil Medvedev is ranked number four in the world and is perhaps the most realistic challenger to the big names of the sport. He performed poorly in Paris, being knocked out in the round of 32, however he has won four titles throughout the year, all on hard courts. He has odds of 5/1.
Roger Federer
Arguably the greatest player of all time, Federer has won this tournament a record six times. His last victory came way back in 2011 though. He has won four tournaments in 2019, including the recent Swiss Indoors, however he didn’t play in the Paris Masters. Odds of 7/2 might tempt some Federer fans.
Dominic Thiem
Dominic Thiem has had a superb 2019, catapulting him into the top echelons of the game. With no fewer than five tournament victories throughout the year – including at Indian Wells – he’s certainly a man on form. His odds of 14/1 look incredibly generous, especially considering he’s very comfortable on hard courts.
Stefanos Tsitsipas
Tsitsipas is considered a star for the future, and the Greek player has furthered his burgeoning reputation with two victories in 2019 – in Estoril and Marseille. He was the winner of last season’s NextGen ATP Finals and goes into this tournament as a dark horse. He can be backed at odds of 14/1.
Alexander Zverev
Since his Tour debut in 2016, Alexander Zverev has become a big name on the circuit. Despite only being 22, he has already won 11 titles, although just one of these came in the 2019 season. He is the current ATP Finals champion after beating Djokovic in last year’s final and he can be backed at odds of 14/1.
Matteo Berrettini
Berrettini goes into the tournament as the underdog, however the 23-year-old thoroughly deserves his place in the line-up. He’s won two tournaments this year and qualified after Gael Monfils lost in the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters. He’ll start the tournament with odds of 25/1.
ATP Finals Betting Tips
With such a competitive field and seemingly every player in form, deciding where to bet your money won’t be an easy decision.
Thankfully, we’ve got Andy Schooler – tennis expert, former betting editor of Sporting Life and Sky Sports contributor to discuss his favorite ahead of the ATP Finals:
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the ATP Finals moving to London. In 2009 a Russian, Nikolay Davydenko, surprisingly triumphed and one of his compatriots could well be lifting the trophy this time around.
Daniil Medvedev has arguably been the best player in the world over the past four months, surging into six consecutive finals, three of which have been won.
The 23-year-old clearly has an eye on a strong finish to the year having opted out of events in Moscow and Vienna recently to rest up and ensure he is ready after a very busy period.
Novak Djokovic, the favourite in London, has been among Medvedev’s victims during his impressive run, although he has suffered two defeats to Rafael Nadal, the most recent a narrow five-set loss in the US Open final.
However, Nadal has never won this event, always struggling with the conditions. In recent years, the court has played fairly fast and that will only aid Medvedev’s game. The same cannot be said of Djokovic and Roger Federer, who between them have won six of the 10 stagings at The O2, but neither player has been at his consistent best of late, as evidenced by shock defeats for both in Shanghai.
Full of confidence having won 29 of his last 32 matches, Medvedev – who can be backed at 14/1 – looks capable of capitalising and proving he is the future of the men’s game.
