Barcelona – Alaves 1-1. Sergio Aguero needed medical attention in the final minutes of the first half.
33-year-old Aguero had trouble breathing and was substituted after 41 minutes by Coutinho. Through a short message posted on their social platforms and on their website, Barcelona confirmed that the Argentine forward “reported chest discomfort and has been admitted to the hospital for a cardiac exam”.
Aguero could walk on his feet to the sidelines, but fans throughout the world were still in panic mode after the match. The Catalonian media claims Aguero suffered an episode of tachycardia. The player told those around him that he went through something similar when he was 12. To avoid any risk, Barcelona’s doctors advised him to get a complete check-up.
Aguero will spend the night in the hospital and will do additional tests tomorrow. Even though “a bit agitated”, Aguero was feeling fine after the incident which caused his substitution, Barcelona sources have told the media.
Against Alaves, Aguero started his only second game for Barcelona since his move from Manchester City last summer. The attacker spent time recovering from injury and couldn’t contribute in the first part of the campaign. Aguero netted his first goal in the Barcelona shirt in the Clasico Barcelona lost 2-1 to Real Madrid on 24 November.
