DraftKings posted a series of wagers on whether specific teams will make the playoffs, and you can make a postseason prop bet on the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors are currently +120 odds to advance to the playoffs by winning two games in the play-in tournament. They’re -155 odds to lose the play-in tournament and miss the playoffs.
The Golden State Warriors are currently 31-31 after an ugly loss against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks last night.
If the season were to end today, the Warriors would be the #10 seed in the Western Conference and eligible to secure a spot in the play-in tournament. The Warriors have 10 games remaining on the schedule and hold a 3.5-game lead over the New Orleans Pelicans (25-36), who currently sit in the #11 spot.
Will the Golden State Warriors Make the Playoffs? |
YES +120 | NO -155 |
The play-in tournament is an experiment that the NBA is trying this season. The #7 and #8 teams meet in a single game known as the “Seven-Eight Game” in which the winner locks up the #7 seed. The loser of the Seven-Eight Game plays the winner of the “Nine-Ten Game” between the #9 and #10 bubble teams. The winner of the Play-in Game will earn the #8 seed.
It’s a simple format in which the #7 and #8 teams need to win just one game with two chances to qualify for the postseason. The #9 and #10 bubble teams must win two games in a row to lock up the #8 seed.
Inaugural Play-in Tournament
The Warriors struggled this season without Klay Thompson, who tore his Achilles while he was recovering from ACL surgery. When the Splash Brothers are healthy, the Warriors are title contenders. Even though Steph Curry went on one of the craziest scoring sprees in NBA history, the Warriors aren’t as effective with only half of the Splash Brothers in the lineup. Without Thompson, the Warriors are barely a break-even team.
Western Conference Standings |
Seed | Team | Record |
6 | Dallas Mavericks | 34-27 |
7 | Portland Trail Blazers | 33-28 |
8 | Memphis Grizzlies | 31-29 |
9 | San Antonio Spurs | 31-29 |
10 | Golden State Warriors | 31-31 |
11 | New Orleans Pelicans | 35-26 |
If the Warriors end the regular season on the bubble as the #10 team, then they’ll have to face the San Antonio Spurs in the Nine-Ten Game. The Portland Trail Blazers and Memphis Grizzlies will square off in the Seven-Eight Game. The Warriors would have to defeat the Spurs first, and then beat the loser of the Blazers/Grizzlies matchup in the Play-in Game.
If you think the Warriors will win two games in a row in the play-in tournament, then DraftKings’ prop bet pays out +120. If you want to fade the Warriors and think they’ll lose the Nine-Ten Game or the Play-in Game, then that prop bet pays out -155.
The Warriors have a losing record at 1-2 against the Portland Trail Blazers this season. They also split games against the San Antonio Spurs (1-1) and Memphis Grizzlies (1-1) this season. The Warriors will also host the Grizzlies in the final game of the season.
