Buffalo, Oakland Surprisingly Over Oddsmaker’s NFL Win Totals

With five games remaining for most teams, the NFL win totals are starting to become clearer. Several teams have already reached the total that oddsmakers set before the start of the season.

Others have a slim chance of getting there. The Los Angeles Rams were pegged to have 10.5 victories by the end of the season. They are currently 6-5, and would have to win out to reach the over. With four of their five remaining games against teams with winning records, it doesn’t appear too likely they will get there.

Teams that Reached Win Total

Team                                     Win Total             Record

San Francisco                           8                      10-1

Seattle                                      8.5                    9-2

Buffalo                                      7                       8-3

Oakland                                    6                       6-5

Baltimore                                 8.5                     9-2

Bettors seemed to favor the over as it opened at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook at even money for the under, and -120 for the over. By June, the over had gone to -140, and the under was at +120.

Here are some of the teams that haven’t reached the NFL win total set by the Westgate, and the likelihood that they will get there by the end of the season.

Close to NFL Win Total

Green Bay Packers 9 wins, 8-3 record

The Packers NFL win total was set at nine, as oddsmakers were certain a healthy Aaron Rodgers would be able to lead Green Bay to the playoffs. The over was the favorite at -140, and the under at even.

Green Bay is 8-3, and should hit the over. They face the 2-9 New York Giants on Sunday, and the 2-9 Washington Redskins the week after.

The team began 7-1, but has lost two of its last three. Coach Matt LaFleur challenged himself and his team to finish the season strong.

“I always want to look at myself critically and make sure that we’re doing everything in our power to put those guys in good position, and I don’t think we did. That’s on me,” LaFleur said. “I think everybody in that locker room will tell you that they can all play better and we can coach better and we’ve got to do it together.”

Oakland Raiders 6 wins, 6-5 record

This could be the biggest surprise of the NFL win totals. The Raiders weren’t supposed to be in contention for a wild-card spot. Oakland’s win total was set at six, and with five games remaining, it looks like they are going to go over.

The schedule provides the Raiders with games against divisional rivals Denver and the Los Angeles Chargers.

No Chance

Los Angeles Chargers 9.5 wins, 4-7 record

Other than their Southern California counterparts, the Rams, the Chargers have been a huge disappointment. The team that finished 12-4 in 2018 is currently at 4-7. That is well under the 9.5 wins projected for them in 2019.

Oddsmakers put the under the favorite at -140, while the over was at +120.

With five games left, even if they win out, they won’t hit the win total.

Cleveland Browns 9 wins, 5-6 record

Cleveland was the darling of gamblers before the season, and the money came flying in on them to win at least nine games, make the playoffs, and win the AFC North.

None of that is going to happen. The chances of them winning their remaining five games is slim, especially with a contest looming with Baltimore.

Atlanta Falcons 8.5, 3-8 record

Atlanta was expected to contend with New Orleans for the NFC South, but instead, have been one of the biggest losers in the NFL this season. They were supposed to reach 8.5 wins, but instead, have a 3-8 record, and won’t reach their total.

Coach Dan Quinn could be a casualty of the team’s performance. He is currently the +100 favorite to be the next NFL coach fired.
