The Saturday slate for college football DFS will feature plenty of high-scoring offenses, with players like Oklahoma State’s Chuba Hubbard and Houston’s Marquez Stevenson among those likely to put up big points for daily fantasy players. The 12-game slate was reduced to 11 after the Thursday cancellation of the Charlotte-North Carolina game, so be sure to check your rosters.
Quarterbacks
Grant Wells, Marshall ($6,300 on DraftKings, $9,000 on FanDuel) – Wells put up big numbers in his first career start, completing 16 of 23 passes for 307 yards and four touchdowns in barely over a half of work. Granted, he accomplished the feat against woeful Eastern Kentucky. Appalachian State should put up more of a fight this Saturday, but that also means that Wells will likely play all four quarters. At this cheap salary, I’m willing to roll the dice the first game wasn’t just an outlier.
Zach Smith, Tulsa ($5,600 on DK, $7,000 on FD) – The senior threw for 3,279 yards last year, although with just 19 TDs and nine interceptions. Oddsmakers expect Oklahoma State to beat the Golden Hurricanes by about three touchdowns on Saturday, which just means Smith will likely be passing more. Like most Big 12 defenses, Oklahoma State is liable to give up plenty of yards and points.
Running Backs
Chuba Hubbard, Oklahoma State ($8,500 on DK, $10,400 on FD) – The Cowboys will likely build a big lead on Tulsa on the back of their top running back and Heisman hopeful, Hubbard. The junior ran for 2,094 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2019, and will likely get his season off to a fast start on Saturday.
Tyjae Spears, Tulane ($6,000 on DK, $8,200 on FD) – Spears led the Green Wave in carries and rushing yards but failed to score a touchdown last week as Tulane beat South Alabama. Quarterback Keon Howard targeted Spears twice. He caught both passes, which were good for 30 yards. Spears could prove to be a multi-dimensional attack against Navy this week.
Wide Receivers
Marquez Stevenson, Houston ($6,500 on DK, $9,200 on FD) – The Cougars’ top receiver seems value-priced for his potential in a game against Baylor that oddsmakers expect to be a shootout. The senior caught 52 balls for 907 yards and nine TDs last year, and will likely be quarterback Clayton Tune’s favorite target against Baylor.
Keylon Stokes, Tulsa ($5,800 on DK, $8,400 on FD) – Pair Stokes with Smith, who should get the ball to his top receiver early and often. Stokes, a senior, caught 62 passes for 1,040 yards and six TDs in 2019, and could prove a bargain at his low salary.
