College Football DFS: Maryland, Mississippi State Players Could Shine

It’s rivalry week (as best can happen in 2020) in college football and the DFS sites offer up a nice slate for Saturday. Teams like Ohio State, Clemson and Alabama should roll, but I’ll focus more on some expected closer shootouts like Mississippi State-Ole Miss and Maryland-Indiana.

Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa was on fire prior to the Terrapins two-week break due to COVID-19. He looks to get things rolling again Saturday against Indiana. (Image: Maryland Athletics)

Here are two players from each position to consider:

Quarterbacks

Taulia Tagovailoa, Maryland ($7,400 on DraftKings, $8,900 on FanDuel) – The Terrapins are finally ready to take the field after two weeks off due to COVID-19 matters, and they face what could be the Big 10’s second-best team in Indiana. The Hoosiers can be scored upon, however. Tagovailoa proved up to the task in his past two games, passing for six touchdowns and averaging about 335 passing yards per game. That yielded an average of about 35 DFS points per game on DraftKings.

Will Rogers, Mississippi State ($6,000 on DK, $7,500 on FD) – The Bulldogs called upon Rogers mightily against Georgia, as he completed 41-of-52 passes for 336 yards and a TD. He could see a similar workload Saturday in the Egg Bowl in what could be a shootout with Ole Miss.

Running backs

Chuba Hubbard, Oklahoma State ($6,600 on DK, $8,400 on FD) – Recent weeks haven’t been kind to the Cowboys running back. Not only has he battled a leg injury, but Oklahoma State has also found itself behind often and needing to pass frequently. Saturday’s game against Texas Tech could prove another story. Oddsmakers peg the Cowboys as an 11-point favorite and expect them to score about 33 points. Hubbard could yield a slate-breaking score.

Hassan Haskins, Michigan ($5,700 on DK, $7,300 on FD) – The Wolverines didn’t ask much of Haskins in their first four games. Then the running back carried 22 times for 110 yards and a touchdown against Rutgers. On Saturday, Michigan faces Penn State, the only Big 10 team more disappointing than themselves. It could be a gamble to hope Haskins sees the same volume this week, but the risk could pay dividends against the lowly Nittany Lions.

Wide receivers

Ty Fryfogle, Indiana ($7,800 on DK, $10,000 on FD) – I avoided Indiana’s No. 1 receiver to my detriment last week due to his questionable status and he broke the slate again. All Fryfogle has done the past two weeks is catch 18 passes for 418 yards and five TDs. He should be a focal point of the Hoosiers’ offense again versus Maryland.

Osirus Mitchell, Mississippi State ($5,100 on DK, $7,000 on FD) – After a monster opener against LSU, Mitchell hasn’t shone as the Bulldogs’ passing game struggled. But Rogers’ last outing points to positive signs for the Mississippi State offense. The Rogers-Mitchell pairing could yield nice DFS results on Saturday.
