Dallas Cowboys 20/1 Super Bowl Odds Despite Zeke Drama

The Dallas Cowboys are 20/1 odds to win the Super Bowl, according to William Hill, even with star RB Ezekiel Elliot skipping training camp during a holdout to secure a contract extension.

The Cowboys finished last season with a 10-6 record and an NFC East crown. They advanced to the NFL Divisional Playoffs, but were trounced by the LA Rams.

The Philadelphia Eagles are on a mission to return to the Super Bowl. Their new directive begins with a simple goal: win the NFC East.

Carson Wentz signed a huge contract extension after Nick Foles bolted for Jacksonville. Wentz has not finished the last two seasons due to injuries, but everyone in Philly is hoping that a healthy Wentz can lead them to another Super Bowl title.

NFC EAST SUPERBOWL ODDS
Philly Eagles 16/1
Dallas Cowboys 20/1
NY Giants 80/1
Washington Redskins 100/1

With the NY Giants in rebuilding mode presumably in Eli Manning’s final season, it’s really going to come down to the Cowboys and Eagles to determine to NFC East Champ.

The Cowboys lost Cole Beasley but they have Jason Whitten back in the locker room after he got bored in retirement working for ESPN.

The Cowboys are “America’s Team” and have fans all over the planet. Their odds are slightly skewed due to their popularity and frequency of wagers.

2018: Tale of Two Halves

The Dallas Cowboys got their butts kicked in the first half of the season with a 3-5 record. There was a moment last year when Jason Garrett was within moments of an impending doom. Funny to think that Jerry Jones stuck with his coach, Amari Cooper caught fire, and the Cowboys took advantage of a weak NFC East to run the table to advance to the playoffs.

The second half of the season was the complete opposite of the first half. The Cowboys went 7-1 thanks to the emergence of Amari Cooper. Jerry Jones looked like a genius for spending a future first-round pick to acquire Cooper from the Oakland Raiders.

As great as the Cowboys played down the stretch, their comeback season ended when they were destroyed by the LA Rams in the playoffs.

Dak Prescott, 25, threw 67 touchdowns in three seasons with the Cowboys. He tossed 22 touchdowns and only 8 interceptions last season.

Cooper scored 6 touchdowns in 9 games with the Cowboys last season.

Zeke Distraction

The Cowboys have never been a dull team. There’s always something going on. The major stories get nonstop coverage in the local press and national media. And on slow news days, the minor stories get blown up as major stories.

Just when you thought the Cowboys were ready to embark on a new season and the first one with a full-time Amari Cooper, were get a new wrinkle courtesy of Zeke Elliot. Not only is he holding out for a contract extension, but Jerry Jones has not been shy about how he really feels. Jones went out and grabbed former Cowboys RB Alfred Morris. Sure, the Cowboys needed a capable backup and Morris is familiar with the team. However, Jones went out of his way to say how the Cowboys can win without Elliot.

Elliot finished with 2,001 combined yards last season with 1,434 rushing yards, and a 4.7 yards-per-attempt average. He scored 9 touchdowns including 6 rushing scores.

Who knows how this drama will shake out? One thing is for certain, the longer it goes on, the bigger the distraction it becomes. For now, the Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl odds are 20/1.
