Dallas Crushing NFC East, Struggling with Rest of NFL

Anyone who thought the Dallas Cowboys weren’t going to be atop the NFC East near the midpoint in the season should have looked at their performances against their competition in that division. The Cowboys were 6-0 straight up, and against the spread, in their last six divisional games spanning the past two seasons.

They made it 7-0 with their 37-10 victory over Philadelphia on Sunday. Dallas was favored by three points.

The Cowboys are 4-3 this season, and three of those four victories came against NFC East teams. With the win over the Eagles, they now have a one-game lead, along with the tiebreaker. They next play a division opponent on Nov. 4 when they travel to face the 2-5 New York Giants. They defeated the Giants 35-17 in the season opener at home.

Dallas Dominates Eagles in NFC East Showdown

With the Giants and Redskins each having losing records, it is widely considered the Cowboys and Eagles are in a two-team race for the NFC East. The loser will probably miss out on a playoff spot.

The Cowboys showed Sunday they are the team to beat in the division, and Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz summed up his team’s performance to reporters after the loss.

“We didn’t show up,” Wentz said. “They beat the crap out of us. I’m confident that we’ll get things fixed. This is a ticked off group. We’re going to rebound from it.”

Oddsmakers aren’t so sure. The opening line for Philadelphia’s road game against Buffalo this Sunday has the Eagles as a 1.5-point underdog.

Dallas might need to sweep its division rivals to make the playoffs. The team is 1-3 outside the NFC East, with their only victory coming against the winless Miami Dolphins. They are also 1-3 ATS in those games.

Denver Fire Sale Imminent?

With Denver’s season going sideways, the Broncos could be looking to part with one of their assets. Television station KUSA reported that the Broncos are shopping wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders before the Oct. 29 trade deadline.

Last year, the team unloaded Demaryius Thomas, shipping him to the Texans. They could be doing the same thing this year with Sanders.

Another player that could be dealt Is cornerback Chris Harris. The team has denied it is looking to trade either player.

Jones Still NY Giants Starter

After three lackluster games, rookie quarterback Daniel Jones was given a vote of confidence from head coach Pat Shurmur on Monday. Shurmur was asked if would consider putting Eli Manning back in as the starter, considering how Jones has struggled the last couple of games.

“No,” Shurmur said. “I think Daniel’s going to learn from everything that’s going on, just like all the other rookies in there playing are going to learn from the things that happen. But you have to learn and you have to win games, and I’m well aware of that. I’m totally well aware of it.”

The problem is not all the fault of Jones. The offensive line has been pitiful. On Sunday against Arizona, Jones was sacked eight times. Shurmur said he still has faith in his rookie QB.

“He’s tough, he’s resilient, and I think he’s got a bright future,” Shurmur said.
