Le Parisien: PSG Thinking about Releasing Sergio Ramos Four Months after Signing Him

Real Madrid’s former captain joined Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent this summer. The defender has been sidelined with injury since his arrival in the French capital four months ago and has yet to make his debut in the PSG shirt.

Ramos hasn’t featured in an official game since May, when he last appeared on the pitch for Real Madrid in the 2-0 defeat against Chelsea in the Champions League semi-final second leg.

Le Parisien claims PSG do not exclude the possibility of releasing 35-year-old Ramos. The Spanish legend has a deal at Parc des Princes until 2023. If PSG want Ramos to leave earlier, they’ll need to reach an agreement with him and his legal representatives.

Ramos was first expected back on the pitch after the October international break, but right now it’s uncertain if he’ll be able to play until the end of November.

Asked for comment on Ramos’ situation after PSG’s 2-1 win over Lille on Friday, sports director Leonardo said the club were aware of his medical problems before signing him.

“It’s the Spanish press trying to tell that… But we knew Sergio Ramos had a problem. The Spanish press is playing and you’re playing their game,” Leonardo told the French reporters.

“We knew everything, we know where our players stand, we know what’s happening,” the official stressed.

A date for Ramos’ possible come-back has not been advanced yet.

Sergio Ramos played for Real Madrid between 2005 and 2021, winning four Champions League trophies and five Spanish championships, among many others. He’s been capped 180 times for the Spanish national team, lifting the World Cup in 2010 and the European Championship on two occasions, in 2008 and 2012.
