Another week, another loss for the New York Jets. The LOL Jets, the only winless team in the NFL, continued their losing ways after a 35-9 drubbing by the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. The Jets are now 0-8 overall and a league-worst 1-7 against the spread, which is great for bettors fading the LOL Jets this season.
No one expected the Jets to beat the Super Bowl champs, but could they cover the massive point spread that got as high as -21 in some markets? Yeah, nope. Kansas City covered by 26 points.
Gambling implications were the only reason anyone tuned into the game, aside from Patrick Mahomes fantasy football team owners and a few loyal, yet deranged Jets fans and other demoralized Gang Green faithful that hate-watched the game.
“I’m doing this job to win,” said head coach Adam Gase. “Not to go out and get my face stomped in — just like all the rest of the guys in the locker room.”
Mahomes threw five touchdowns for Kansas City, who pulled away from the Jets in the second half after building a 21-9 halftime lead. The Chiefs finished with 35 total points and their defense shut out the Jets in the last two quarters.
The Jets have now been outscored 107-29 in their last four games.
Oh, and the worst part of the loss? Quarterback Sam Darnold got hurt near the end of the game. He fell on the same shoulder he injured earlier in the season. Darnold underwent an MRI for precautionary reasons, but there’s no serious damage.
Second Half Donut
The LOL Jets were held scoreless once again in the second half for the third game in a row, and the fourth time this season.
In the last four weeks, the Jets scored only seven points in the second half, which was a garbage-time touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals. Since Week 3, or a span of six games, the Jets scored only 22 points in the second half.
LOL JETS SCORING WOES |
POINTS | 2ND HALF POINTS | |
Week 1 | 17 | 14 |
Week 2 | 13 | 10 |
Week 3 | 7 | 0 |
Week 4 | 28 | 15 |
Week 5 | 10 | 7 |
Week 6 | 0 | 0 |
Week 7 | 11 | 0 |
Week 8 | 9 | 0 |
The Jets were held to 10 or fewer points in their last six games. To put that in context, the Chiefs scored 35 points this week, while the Jets scored 29 points in their last four combined games.
The Jets lead the NFL as the lowest-scoring team in the NFL averaging 11.8 points per game.
The inept offense failed to reach 300 total yards in a game in eight attempts. The LOL Jets rank dad last in the NFL, averaging 155.9 passing yards per game.
The defense sucks just as much. The front office continues to trade the team’s top defenders, but Gregg Williams has done a terrible job this season. The Jets allow 29.8 points per game, which is ranked #5 worst in the NFL.
Fade the Jets Now 7-1
We unleashed “Operation Fade the Jets” in Week when we started betting against the Jets every week until they fire head coach Adam Gase.
After starting the season 6-0 ATS, the Jets finally beat the spread in Week 7 against the Buffalo Bills. Heading into Week 8, the Jets drew a lot of attention from wiseguys and underdog backers because 20 points is a huge advantage. Then again, it’s the LOL Jets that give up in the second half of games. Great teams pull their sh-t together in the second half, while losing teams with no soul quickly wilt away.
The soulless Jets sunk to 0-8 overall and 1-7 ATS. The Jets continue to be a huge target in survivor pools with gamblers opting to pick the Jets opponent every week. Through nearly half the season, that strategy has been highly successful.
FADE THE LOL JETS |
- Week 8: Kansas City Chefs 35, NY Jets 9
- Point Spread: KC -19.5
- Jets Record: 0-8 SU, 1-7 ATS
- Fade the Jets Record: 7-1
The Jets face the struggling New England Patriots (2-5) on Monday Night Football, but the Pats are still favorites by more than a touchdown. The Jets are +7.5 home dogs, but we’ll continue to fade them.
Even when the Pats were awesome, the Jets always played them tough and could snag at least one win a season against Brady and Belichick. Now, even a team in turmoil like the 2020 Pats can’t ask for a better slump-buster opponent than the Gase-led 0-8 Jets.
If you want to bet that the Jets will go 0-16 this season, you can find 4/1 odds at various sportsbooks, including the Circa in Las Vegas.
