Move Over Patriots: Red Hot Rams Now Favorite to Win 2019 Super Bowl

With Week 4 of the NFL season underway, the Los Angeles Rams are the favorite to win the NFL Championship. At the South Point Casino in Las Vegas, the Rams’ odds are moving, with the LA team currently at 3/1 to win Super Bowl LIII at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

The undefeated Rams improved to 4-0 after beating the Minnesota Vikings 38-31 in a high-scoring affair on Thursday Night Football. Quarterback Jared Goff unleashed a career-record 465 yards passing and added 5 touchdowns in a shootout victory against the Vikings.

The Rams are the team to beat. They boast the best defense in the league and cause headaches with a high-scoring offense. In terms of advanced metrics DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average), the Rams are the most efficient overall teams with a No. 2 ranked offense and No. 8 ranked defense.

The Rams opened at 20/1 shortly after last year’s season ended. The Rams bolstered their defense with strong acquisitions during the offseason. Before the preseason began, the Rams improved to 10/1.  After a 4-0 start, the bookies in Vegas view the Rams as the big favorite at 3/1.

Top 5 2019 Super Bowl Favorites

New Orleans Saints 8/1

Rolling with Mahomes

The Kansas City Chiefs are the second-highest favorite on the board at 8/1. QB Patrick Mahomes looked flawless guiding KC to a 3-0 start. The Chiefs’ D is suspect, but does it really matter when you have an explosive offense that can beat you on the ground and in the air? We’ve seen this dominance in the past only to fizzle out in the postseason. Head coach Andy Reid racks up wins during the regular season, but he can’t get over the postseason hump.

Birds Can’t Fade History

The defending champs are 12/1 odds to win again, but bad that history is against the Philadelphia Eagles. It’s near-impossible to win back-to-back Super Bowls, a feat accomplished only once in the last 20 years (New England Patriots won consecutive years in 2004 and 2005). The Super Bowl hangover is apparent for the Eagles, who got off to a slow start.

The Atlanta Falcons are 10/1 favorites, but you might want to think twice because the Falcons have to fade the home stadium curse. No NFL team has ever won the Super Bowl on their home field. Super Bowl LIII will be hosted at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia on February 3, 2019.

Valuetown Jags

If RB Leonard Fournette can stay healthy, the Jags could run the table. Kansas City’s offense looks unstoppable, but the Chiefs typically falter down the stretch. With the Patriots and Steelers struggling, the Jaguars as the logical pick to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. The Jags are currently 4/1 to win the AFC Championship and 8/1 to win the Super Bowl.

Will Packers and Patriots Get Hot?

The Patriots got off to a shocking 1-2 start. Not to worry. Coach Bill Belichick will figure it out. He always does. The offense looked stagnant, but Tom Brady and all of New England are anxiously waiting for newly acquired WR Josh Gordon to get fully integrated into the Pats’ offensive scheme. The Patriots are no longer the heavy favorite, but they’re still at the top at 8/1.

If Aaron Rodgers can avoid any injuries, then the Green Bay Packers are always a legit contender. No one wants to play the Packers on the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field and winter is coming. Packers are currently 15/1.

Miami Rise and Baker Mania Shifting Lines

Before the season started, the Miami Dolphins were 100/1. After a hot 3-0 start, the Dolphins are in first place in the AFC East and improved to 40/1.

Somewhat similarly, Baker Mania is running wild, with rookie QB and lottery pick Baker Mayfield coming off the bench to lead Cleveland to their first victory in three seasons. If it weren’t for kicking problems, the Browns could be 3-0. The Browns started out at 100/1 but their odds rocketed to 40/1.
