Anthony Edwards demonstrated why the Minnesota Timberwolves made him the #1 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft when he exploded for a career-high 48 points against the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night.

Edwards notched the third 40-plus point game of his career and the first of this season. As a rookie last season, Edwards joined LeBron James and Luka Doncic as the only other teenaged players to drop 40 or more points in multiple games before their 21st birthday. Edwards, who was a one-and-done player at Georgia, turned 20 in August.

Edwards leads the Timberwolves in scoring, averaging 25.9 points per game. He also averages 6.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. He’s currently ranked #8 in the NBA in scoring.

The Warriors defeated the Timberwolves 123-110, but Edwards stole the show and nearly scored twice as many points as Steph Curry (25 points). Edwards helped keep Curry, who unleashed 50 points on Monday, in check on Wednesday night.

“Forget the points, just how we were down 20 and the way that we fought back as a team, I loved that,” said Edwards. “That gave me energy to keep going. I was tired, man. I was exhausted.”

Edwards finished the night with 48 points in 42 minutes along with five rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

“It was absolutely perfect,” said head coach Chris Finch.

Since starting the season 3-1, the T-Wolves lost six games in a row.
