One gambler became $1 million poorer after two big bets he made on the New York Giants in Week 3 failed to cash. DraftKings reported the two bets made for the Sunday contest against San Francisco. They didn’t identify where or who made them.
The gambler would probably like to remain anonymous after the two wagers didn’t come close to paying off. When DraftKings announced the bets on Twitter, the backlash was swift and brutal, with several users questioning the gambler’s mental faculties.

The first $500,000 wager was a straight bet on the outcome of the game. The bettor got the Giants and four points against the San Francisco 49ers at home. New York lost the game, 36-9.
The second $500,000 wager was a prop bet on the over/under of passing yards for quarterback Daniel Jones. The gambler took the over of 244.5 yards and Jones finished with 179 yards.
Big Bet on Miami-Jacksonville Cashes
One big bet on the over/under of Thursday night’s Miami-Jacksonville game came through for a DraftKings customer. The unidentified gambler plunked down $795,200 on an alternate over of 41.5 points.
The alternate over/under is a prop bet made with odds on the point total. The straight over/under is usually at -110, but the odds on an alternate over/under can fluctuate depending on the points. The straight over/under for the Miami-Jacksonville game was 49.
The gambler got odds of -270, with the potential payout at $294,224. He did sweat when a Jacksonville score at 9:03 in the fourth quarter brought the total to 41, but came with a missed PAT. Fortunately, a Miami field goal with 3:49 remaining pushed the total to 44.
Over Trending Through Three Weeks
Those betting the over in the first three weeks of the season have been consistently cashing winning tickets. Not counting Monday’s game, the over went 9-6 in Week 3. The over was 11-5 in Week 2 and 9-7 in Week 1.
“The first couple of weeks, there’s been plenty of points scored,” Nick Bogdanovich, director of trading for William Hill said.
A $55,000 wager on the over in the Pittsburgh-Houston game cashed.
At FanDuel, 85% of the money was on the over in the Green Bay-New Orleans game at 53.5. The over easily cashed with the final, Green Bay 37, New Orleans 30.
Also at FanDuel, 91% of the money is on the over at 54.5 for Monday Night’s Kansas City-Baltimore game.
One over that failed bettors was Thursday’s Miami-Jacksonville game. The line jumped up from 47.5 to 49 by game time. One bettor lost $33,000 when he took the over. The final score was Miami 31, Jacksonville 13.
Small Bet, Big Return
One gambler decided to throw down $5 on Buffalo tight end Lee Smith scoring the first touchdown of the game at 80/1. Smith cashed the bettor’s ticket for $505 when he found the end zone first.

Rex Burkhead of New England paid off on a similar bet for one gambler who turned $50 into $800 when he was the first to score.
It took some time, but Rex Burkhead found the end zone for the Patriots.
