With the first Sunday of the NFL season upon us, it’s time to make some DFS rosters. As usual, you can look to OG News for the cheap players who will help complete your rosters. These Week 1 value plays will help you squeeze in the higher-priced players.
Below are five guys under $5,000 on DraftKings to consider for your lineups:
Mac Jones, Patriots QB ($4,400)
New England shocked observers by dumping Cam Newton and naming Jones as the starting quarterback. The move may have been made, at least partially, due to Newton’s theatrics, but, evidently, the rookie QB from Alabama showed coaches enough to put the 2021 season into his hands. He has certainly looked sharp in the preseason and opens at home against Miami.
Devin Singletary, Bills RB ($4,700)
Buffalo may be a pass-first offense, but any time a team marches up and down the field, that will give an even lightly used starting running back some goal-line opportunities. Singletary scored surprisingly few TDs in 2020, despite averaging more than 10 carries and nearly three receptions per game. Variance would seem to dictate more trips to the end zone in 2021.
Marquez Callaway, Saints WR ($3,400)
With Michael Thomas sidelined due to injury and Tre’Quan Smith out because of undisclosed reasons, Callaway is the No. 1 receiver in New Orleans. He’s put on a show in the preseason, making a one-handed touchdown grab and scoring again while being interfered with. The rapport Callaway has shown with starting quarterback Jameis Winston should carry into a tough opener against the Packers.
Jaylen Waddle, Dolphins WR ($3,600)
Waddle sits No. 3 in the Dolphins’ pecking order, but with Will Fuller serving the final game of his suspension, the rookie should see more looks than he would otherwise. It certainly doesn’t hurt that Waddle is reconnecting with his old Bama running mate, Tua Tagovailoa, who is Miami’s starting QB.
Dallas Goedert, Eagles TE ($4,800)
Goedert is expected to be the lead tight end for Philadelphia in 2021 following a solid 2020 that saw him average nearly three receptions and 50 receiving yards per game. And he gets to open the season against a Falcons defense that’s notoriously bad against tight ends, ranking among the worst teams in the NFL in DFS last year.
