Week 8 NFL DFS: Look to AJ Green, Marquez Callaway for Value

Devante Adams and Tyler Lockett blew up the Week 7 NFL slate in DFS last week, combining for nearly 100 points on DraftKings. Hopefully, if you took some of the value plays touted here last week, you were able to afford some of those higher-priced receivers.

AJ Green finally started getting lots of targets over the past two weeks, but his Week 8 salary remains cheap. (Image: MSN)

Those two are among the players with big salaries on DraftKings in Week 8, so look at some of these under-$5,000 value plays to help you squeeze them into your rosters.

Adrian Peterson, Lions RB ($4,000)

You won’t get Derrick Henry or Alvin Kamara numbers from the former All-Pro, but the salary savings will allow you to draft those other guys for your other roster slots. Peterson has touched the ball at least a dozen times in nearly every game so far, scoring touchdowns in two of his past three outings.

Marquez Callaway, Saints WR ($3,400)

With the absence of Michael Thomas due to injury, and Emmanuel Sanders due to a positive COVID-19 test, Callaway shined in Week 7 against the Panthers, catching eight of 10 targets for 75 yards. He left the game late due to an ankle sprain and was held out of practice on Wednesday, so his status for this week bears monitoring. Thomas and Sanders will also miss the Week 8 game against the Bears, so look for either Callaway or Tre’Quan Smith ($4,700) to have big receiving days.

AJ Green, Bengals WR ($4,500)

Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow is chucking the rock like a madman, and Green benefited over the past two weeks with 15 receptions for 178 yards. The lack of touchdowns has kept his salary down, but a matchup in Week 8 against a Titans teams that ranks just 28th in the league against opposing wide receivers could end that unfortunate streak.

Nelson Agholor, Raiders WR ($4,700)

In a week with little quarterback or running back value, let’s examine a third wideout. Agholor has averaged more than 17 DFS points per game over the past three contests as he and quarterback Derek Carr established chemistry. He hit the century mark last week against the Bucs, catching five of nine targets for 107 yards and a TD. This week’s opponent, Cleveland, ranks 27th in the league against opposing receivers in DFS.

Jared Cook, Saints TE ($4,400)

The same strategy applies to Cook as with the aforementioned New Orleans receivers. With a depleted receiving corps, there are fewer bodies at which quarterback Drew Brees can toss the ball. It stands to reason that Cook could see more targets (even though he saw just four last week.) Cook has scored in each of the past two games.
