The New York Jets are one of the many Super Bowl long shots on the board with 66/1 odds according to William Hill. The Jets had a bump when they signed Le’Veon Bell, but all signs indicate that new head coach Adam Gase is headed for an 8-8 season at best.
Then again, anything that’s better than a 4-12 season is a vast improvement for the NY Jets. Adam Gase has a chance to help the Jets young QB Sam Darnold flourish in the NFL.

The New England Patriots are favorites to win the Super Bowl once again. The Pats have a lock on the AFC East… once again. The Jets are the best of the rest in the AFC East with 66/1 Super Bowl odds. The Jets have two early games this season against the Pats. The Pats often start out slow with the goal to peak in the postseason. Perhaps the Jets can catch the Pats off guard in Foxboro during a Week 3 match up?
The Jets have an early bye week, which is a bad beat. Teams prefer later in the season when they’re all beat down and need time off to recuperate.
Adding Weapons
The Jets landed a huge coup by signing Le’Veon Bell. Even though the contract is redonkulous money, the Jets got an All-Pro running back to help take the pressure off Darnold. All Jets postseason dreams hinge upon a two-pronged attack with an aerial bombardment helmed by Darnold and a Bell-led rushing attack.
The Jets added vet Jamison Crowder at wide receiver, who has become a favorite target of Darnold’s. Speed demon Richie Anderson is on the verge of a breakout season. Quincy Enumwa proved at different times he could be the best wide out on the field and he’s the third option. The Jets have a potential star with TE Chris Herndon, but he will miss four games due to a suspension from a DWI and car crash.
The Jets improved their offensive line by adding guard Kelechi Osemele trade from the Oakland Raiders. New GM Joe Douglas also coaxed All-Pro center Ryan Kalil out of retirement to help protect Darnold.
The Jets also lost their All-Pro kicker Jason Meyers to the Seattle Seahawks. They added vet Chandler Catanzaro to the mix in the offseason, but he didn’t last very long. Gase cut Catanzaro after he missed a couple of kicks in a preseason game. The Jets will now roll the dice with a couple of rookie kickers.

New Coaches
In many ways, Adam Gase was Sean McVay before Sean McVay. Gase emerged as the guy who helped revitalize Peyton Manning’s last hurrah in Denver. McVay whiffed badly in Miami, but you can see where everything went wrong with personnel issues.
With Gase focused mentoring Darnold and opening up the offense, the defense is handled by former Bounty Gate coach Gregg Williams.
The Jets have always had defensive minded head coach, but took a departure with the hiring of QB-whisperer Adam Gase. To make sure the Jets still retained their defensive edge, their hired the tough-nosed and old-school guru Gregg Williams.
The Jets drafted Quinnen Williams with the third overall pick. Fans have taken a liking to Q for his youthful enthusiasm, but the kid was also the best lineman in the country last year causing havoc for Alabama. Good things could happen under the tutelage of Williams.
“He’s an amazing man, the mindset that he has and the things he holds us by,” said Q on his new defensive coordinator. “I’m a real big discipline person, Bama coach (Nick) Saban taught me a lot about discipline, effort, toughness, pride about what you do. Gregg believes in the same things. I expect hard coaching from him, I expect hard coaching from everybody because I know at the end of the day they’re gonna help me and they got my best interests.”
The Jets hoped they drafted the next Aaron Donald, while fans hope he will not be another one of the LOL-Jets classic draft busts.
