For the first time since September 2016, Oklahoma isn’t in the AP Top 25 Football Poll. The Sooners suffered their second consecutive upset, tumbling out of the first 25 spots in the Week 6 poll.
Oklahoma is one of five teams that dropped out of the AP Top 25 Football Poll. The others are Central Florida, Mississippi State, Pittsburgh, and Memphis.
Iowa State, who defeated Oklahoma on Saturday, jumped back into the poll at No. 24. They were No. 23 in the preseason poll, but got dropped from the top 25 when they lost to Louisiana-Lafayette in the second week of the season, 31-14.

After their 37-30 loss to the Cyclones, Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley tried to explain to reporters why his team isn’t where they need to be at this point in the season.
 “We had some chances to separate against a good team on the road,†Riley said. “When you’re a great team you take advantage of those. We’re not quite there yet.â€
Saturday was the first time Oklahoma lost to Iowa State on the road since 1960.
Little Movement in Top 5
Clemson stayed at No. 1 after they dismantled Virginia on Saturday, 41-23. The Tigers, however, failed to cover the 28-point spread. It was the third consecutive game this season Clemson has failed to cover.
The Tigers also lost some first-place votes as well. In Week 5, Clemson garnered 55 of the 62 first-place votes. Alabama got three, and Ohio State, which won’t play until the end of October, got four.
In Week 6, Clemson got 52 first-place votes while Alabama had eight, and Ohio State two.
The Crimson Tide kept its No. 2 spot after crushing Texas A&M, 52-24. The No. 13 Aggies slipped eight spots after the defeat.
Georgia and Florida both won, but flipped spots, with the Bulldogs now No. 3 and the Gators No. 4. Notre Dame, which was idle, stayed at No. 5.
Next Five See Sizable Shifts
With former No. 7 Auburn losing to No. 3 Georgia and No. 9 Texas getting upset by unranked TCU, there was some movement in the five through 10 spots.
The Tigers’ loss to the Bulldogs cost them six spots as they fell to No. 13. The Longhorns had the biggest drop, however. After losing to an unranked TCU team 33-31 at home, Texas dropped 13 spots to No. 22. It was the team’s seventh loss to TCU in nine years.
“Losing bothers me the most,” Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger said. “This university deserves better. And it’s very frustrating when it’s self-inflicting and it’s preventable by attention to detail and playing the way we all know that everybody is capable of playing in this program.”
With Auburn and Texas falling out of the top 10, North Carolina moved to No. 8 after their victory over Boston College, 26-22. Oklahoma State, who was No. 17 last week, jumped up to No. 10 with a 47-7 road victory over Kansas.
