One Bet, $100: Toyota Should Carry the Day at Coca-Cola 600

Joe Gibbs Racing and Toyota have been dominant recently, and I’m hoping that streak continues Sunday at the Coca-Cola 600. That’s why with this week’s One Bet, $100, I took Toyota at 2/1 to be the manufacturer to win 2020 Coca-Cola 600.

Last Sunday, I picked Kurt Busch to finish in the top 3 at +550 at The Real Heroes 400. The older Busch brother finished right on the number and I pocketed a cool $500 profit.

This week, I’m being a little more conservative and taking the favorite in this proposition bet that the Westgate SuperBook USA is offering. There are a couple of reasons I like a Toyota driver to win on Sunday.

Stars Should Propel Toyota in Coca-Cola 600

The first reason is the stars that drive Toyota race cars. Joe Gibbs Racing has three top drivers in Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, and Martin Truex Jr. Busch and Truex are among the four favorites to win the Coca-Cola 600. Kevin Harvick and Chase Elliott are the other two.

My decision also makes sense since Busch won this race in 2018, and Truex took the checkered flag last year. It’s not inconceivable that Toyota could make it a three-peat at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The other driver that could easily win here is Denny Hamlin. Hamlin has been on a tear of late. He finished first last Wednesday at Darlington Raceway in the rain-shortened Toyota 500, and has two other top-10 finishes at races that use the 550-horsepower package. He also won the Daytona 500 for the second year in a row.

Hamlin told reporters after his victory at Darlington that he feels confident going into Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600.

“When you’re winning, it means you’re doing some things right,” Hamlin said. “I think being able to go right back to a race track three or four days later, it allows you to keep that momentum for an extended amount of time when it comes to races.”

Truex, Busch Ready for Charlotte

Truex had been shut out of the top 10 before Darlington, then the 39-year-old finished sixth and 10 at the two races at the South Carolina race track. He said all the Toyota cars have been improving their speed.

“I think we’re right there,” Truex said. “I would say that we’re probably not the strongest team right now.”

Busch is another driver who’s due for his first victory of the season. The 35-year-old had three victories at this point last year. He’s been sniffing around victory lane, with two seconds and a third.

Why Toyota Will Win

The odds at the Westgate have shifted as gamblers believe Ford will win the Coca-Cola 600. They haven’t won this race since 2002, but Joey Logano did finish second last year.

Ford definitely has more drivers than Toyota does, but I still believe it will be Toyota, and, most likely, a member of Joe Gibbs Racing that wins at Charlotte on Sunday.
