Everton came back from 2-0 to beat Crystal Palace 3-2 and secure their Premier League status for next season.
At the end of the match, fans invaded the pitch to celebrate their team’s survival. One supporter provoked Palace manager Patrick Vieira, who appeared to kick him. The FA and the Merseyside Police are investigating Vieira and the events at Goodison Park.
The Everton supporter screamed at Vieira before the manager reacted. The footage has been published on Twitter and went viral.
Asked for comment in his post-match press conference, Viera didn’t say anything on the matter.
First-half goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta and Jordan Ayew put Palace up 2-0 against Everton, who managed to come back and win three essential points thanks to goals from Michael Keane, Richarlison, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Following their win on Thursday, Everton is guaranteed to play in the Premier League next season.
Supporters first celebrated by entering the pitch and causing a break in play after Calvert-Lewin made it 3-2 in the 85th minute. Merseyside Police made seven arrests based on reports of disorder at the game.
Who’s going down?
A crazy campaign could result in relegation for Leeds. Jesse Marsch’s men are regarded as the perfect victims ahead of the last round. Leeds is at -300 to go down, despite being on even points with Burnley (at +230).
On Sunday, Leeds travels to London to face Brentford, while Burnley faces Newcastle at home. Both Brentford and Newcastle have secured mid-table positions, but Leeds’ form as of late isn’t convincing the bookies they are in a good position to get the much-needed three points.
Leeds last won a Premier League match on April 9, beating Watford away 3-0. Since then, they’ve only won two points in five matches while Burnley has won seven points from their last five encounters. Leeds is at +170 to win against Brentford, whereas Burnley sits at +125 to triumph in the Newcastle match.
