The New Orleans Saints will not have quarterback Jameis Winston for the remainder of the season due to a torn ACL knee injury, which he suffered on Sunday during a 36-27 victory over the Tampa Bay Bucs.
Devin White from the Bucs horse collared Winston in the second quarter, which caused the injury when Winston awkwardly twisted his knee. At the time of the Winston injury, the Saints and Bucs were tied 7-7.
Despite losing Winston, the Saints defeated defending Super Bowl champions with backup Trevor Siemian under center against Tom Brady. Siemian completed 16 of 29 passes for 159 yards and one touchdown in a NFC South divisional battle.
The Saints did not have backup QB Taysom Hill last week, who suffered a concussion earlier in the season and had yet to return.
“Taysom’s doing well,” said head coach Sean Payton. “He’s progressing. He’s on schedule. And all that’s good. We’ll see if he’ll be ready (next game).”
The Saints improved to 5-2 on the season and if the season were to end today, they’d earn a Wild Card spot in the NFC.
The Saints opened as a -6 favorite over the Atlanta Falcons (3-4) at the Superdome in Week 9.
Siemian is 13-12 as a starter with the Denver Broncos and New York Jets. He’s expected to start against the Falcons. In addition to Siemian and Hill, the Saints also have rookie Ian Book on the roster.

Rumors: Brees, Rivers, or Newton?
There’s been rampant speculation in the last 24 hours that Drew Brees or Philip Rivers will come out of retirement to suit up for the Saints. Brees retired at the end of last season, and Winston edged out Hill in preseason to win the starting QB job.
Veteran QB Cam Newton is also without a team after the New England Patriots cut him before the start of the season. Newton’s name has also been mentioned in rumors to replace Winston.
