In the latest installment of Super Bowl Whale Watch, Houston furniture store magnate Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale, bet $1 million on the San Francisco 49ers to win the 2020 Super Bowl. He’s getting +120 on the 49ers, so he’ll win $1.2 million if they defeat the Kansas City Chiefs.
Ben Fawkes from ESPN reported that the $1 million bet is the largest wager on the upcoming Super Bowl.
Three weeks ago, Mattress Mack backed his hometown Houston Texans in the AFC Divisional round against the Kansas City Chiefs. He bet $1 million on the Texans moneyline at +385. He missed out on winning $3.85 million when the Texans choked and blew a 24-0 lead. Patrick Mahomes worked his magic in the second quarter to put the Chiefs ahead 28-24. They never looked back, and Mattress Mack flushed a cool million down the drain.
Two weeks ago, Mattress Mack bet $1 million on the Tennessee Titans to upset the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship. The Titans blew a lead and Mahomes engineered another second quarter comeback as the Chiefs held off the Titans 35-24 to advance to the Super Bowl.
On Wednesday, Mattress Mack flew out to Las Vegas to back the San Francisco 49ers and fade Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs once again. He’s 0-2 betting against Kansas City, but that didn’t stop him from placing $1 million in bets at the Mirage Sportsbook, at +120 on the moneyline, on San Francisco.

It's the largest #SuperBowlLIV wager so far.

Kansas City is a consensus 1-point favorite over San Francisco. Mattress Mack’s wager didn’t move the line at all.
Whiffing on the Astros, Thar She Blows… Again
McIngvale owns several furniture stores in Houston. The sports betting whale doesn’t operate under the radar, like knapsack guy. Mattress Mack made headlines last October when he placed several million dollars in wagers on the Houston Astros to win the ALCS and World Series. He made noise with a $3.5 million bet in Biloxi. Although he’s an admitted Astros fan, he bet big on the Astros to hedge a promotion for his furniture store.
Win It All Promotion
– If any customer purchased $3,000 or more in furniture, Mattress Mack gives them a full cash refund if the Astros win the World Series
Mack estimated he needed $20 million or so to cover his losses in the Win It All promotion.
The Astros lost in the World Series, despite their well-publicized attempts at cheating. The Washington Nationals beat the Astros, and Mattress Mack lost over $13 million in various wagers. In the end, however, he came out ahead because of the free publicity and all the extra furniture he sold during the Win It All promo.
With four more days until the 2020 Super Bowl kicks off in Miami on Sunday, the question now is, how much more money can Mattress Mack get down on the 49ers?
By the way… we broke down the rise in Super Bowl ticket prices over the last 20 years.
