5 DFS Golfers to Watch at Travelers Championship

The PGA Tour heads to the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, this week, which will play at 6,841 yards and a par of 70. Like last week at Harbour Town, Pete Dye designed this course and it rewards accurate tee shots more than bombed drives. That’s not to say that we won’t see plenty of birdies at the Travelers, as Jim Furyk shot the only 58 in tour history here and the past two winners both shot 17 under.

As you put together your DFS lineups, take a look at these players with either good recent form or strong course history – or both.

Paul Cantlay ($9,800 on DraftKings, $11,300 on FanDuel)

Brooks Koepka was originally my top pick for the week, but he withdrew after his caddy tested positive for COVID-19. I’ll pivot in the same salary range to Paul Cantlay, who hasn’t missed a cut in his past seven tournaments, but who hasn’t played since February. He’s likely to be highly owned, but his results on the season make him one to watch.

Paul Casey ($8,900 on DK, $10,700 on FD)

Plenty of DFS players will be on this Englishman, but given his course history at TPC River Highlands he will prove very hard to leave out of many lineups. His results include four top fives in the past five Travelers Championship events, with his worst finish a tie for 17th in 2016. Casey is no slouch away from this course, having made seven of seven cuts on the season.

Bubba Watson ($8,800 on DK, $10,800 on FD)

Another golfer whose history here is strong, Watson won the Travelers Championship thrice, in 2010, 2015, and 2018. He’s also hot, with a tie for seventh at the Charles Schwab Challenge two weeks ago. His tie for 52nd last week didn’t look so great, but he struck the ball well, putting himself in contention for birdies even as he failed to capitalize. Overall, he gained three strokes tee to green at Harbour Town, which could bode well for his results at River Highlands.

Sungjae Im ($8,600 on DK, $10,400 on FD)

Im missed the cut last week, which could benefit DFS players who don’t tend to overreact. He putted the ball poorly at Harbour Town, losing 4.40 strokes on the greens. His previous worst putting performance was on the same greens. He will likely fare better with a change of venue at TPC River Highlands. Im’s results on the season can’t be denied – 14 of 16 cuts made with six top 10 finishes, including a tie for 10th at the Charles Schwab Challenge two weeks ago.

Brian Harman ($7,600 on DK, $9,200 on FD)

The small left-hander who ranks low in driving distance finds himself in good position during this stretch of the tour, finishing in the top 30 the past two weeks, including a bogey-free closing 65 last Sunday. His career record at TPC River Highlands bodes well for this weekend, as Harman boasts three finishes inside the top eight since 2015.
