It’s not a great time to be a New York City sports fan. The Giants and Jets are at the bottom of the NFL. In the NBA, the Knicks haven’t been to the playoffs since 2013, and the Brooklyn Nets since 2015. The NHL’s Rangers and Islanders didn’t make the playoffs last year, and the Islanders the year before as well. In baseball Mets fans are wondering if their team will ever get back to the World Series after losing to the Kansas City Royals in 2015.
About the only team worth rooting for in the Big Apple is the New York Yankees, but this year they lost in the American League Divisional Series in four games to rival Boston, 3-1.
It doesn’t seem to be getting any better for those living in the five boroughs. We decided at Online Gambling to have a knock out bracket to see who is truly the worst team in New York City.
First Round: Intracity Rivals
Baseball: Mets vs. Yankees
The Yankees have been to the playoffs three of the last four years, while the Mets have only been there twice, and have sat home for the previous two years. The Yankees won 100 games, the Mets 77.
Winner: Mets
Basketball: Knicks vs. Nets
The Knicks last playoff appearance was 2013, when the defeated the Boston Celtics in the first round, but lost to the Indiana Pacers in the second round. The Nets have been in 2013, 2014, and 2015, but only won one of four series. Still they have been there more than the Knicks.
Winner: Knicks
Hockey: Rangers vs. Islanders
The Rangers did not make the playoffs last year, but had been to the postseason the five years, including 2014 when they lost to the LA Kings in the Stanley Cup Finals. The Islanders have not make the playoffs the last two years, and the furthest they went since 2014 was the second round.
Winner: Islanders
Football: Jets vs. Giants

Second Round: Road to Championship
Mets vs. Knicks
The Mets finished fourth in the National League East, though were 11th out of 15 teams. The Knicks finished 11th out of 15 teams, with a 29-53 record last season. So far this year, they are 13th with a 4-10 record.
Winner: Knicks
Islanders vs. Jets
The Islanders lost John Tavares to free agency, but gained last year’s Stanley Cup winning coach, Barry Trotz. The team is fifth out of eight teams in the Metropolitan Division this year. The Jets are 3-7 this year, and are tied for last in the AFC East.
Winner: Jets
Dubious Honor: Champion
Jets vs. Knicks
The Knicks have been through six head coaches in seven years, but did finish second in the Eastern Conference in 2013. Since then, however, it has been a quick decline, and the highest they have finished in five subsequent seasons was ninth. They were criticized for their selection of Kevin Knox with the ninth pick, though he might be better than people thought.
The Jets haven’t seen the playoffs in eight years, with two head coaches. The current one Todd Bowles, might not be around at the end of the year. Third pick in the draft, Sam Darnold, seems to have regressed, and the team suffered an embarrassing 42-10 loss to the Bills on Sunday.
Champion: Jets
